Two Hundred Forty Two Time
Back from camp again.
Mon
First IV with the 16G needle. The needle is thick. Almost as thick as the yakult straw. Fail the first needle. zzZZzz.. Passed the second one without blood spilling out. Best.
Had exam for the resus equipment. Didnt really study on it. The exam wasnt that hard. Just need to assemble the equipment then describe how to use and how to maintain it.
Tues
Learn about AOH (Arresting of haemorrhage). Yet another painful experience. 7 second to form a figure of 7 and minimum of three rounds around the amputation then end off with two knots. Many ppl had bruising on the right forearm.
Got to do burn dressing also. The easiest to do among all the four practical module to be tested on thursday.
Wed
A&P exam. Had to march to engineer block to take the exam. Its about 1.4km away because we took the long long long way there. The questions were hard. I deem it not suitable for medics to take. A few qn is like my poly bio paper standard. Those without bio background sure cannot answer those qn.
Then we had revision on the modules to be tested on thursday.
Thurs
Practical exam day. Luckily, my section had lectures in the morning. Most of us were just reading our books while the lecture is going on. Had our exam in the afternoon. It was abit more scary. There were alot of memorising to be done. eg. An elbow fracture have three different methods of immobilising according to the angle of the fracture. zzZZzz... But still, passed everything.
Got to know our A&P score. I got 43/50. The top scorer got 47/50. My position should be rank 4th or 5th. I think the top scorers are all nursing students. Hahaha...
Got to have a night's out. Went to sun plaza with the bunk mates. We were just loitering around. Then decided to watch movie. We watched cloverfield. Rating - 0.5/5
Horrible horrible show. The first man view method of filming CMI. Alot of time the screen is just shaking all around because the guy is running about. Almost had a headache watching that show.
Fri
Yet another IV session. Finally today, someone wanted to poke me. Actually I already wanted to be poke by 16G needle. Hahaha.. Everything also must try abit. The 20G is already a WOW x N experience. On monday, the first 16G session, some ppl already got tears in their eyes. That is how painful it is.
So i got ready and lay on the floor. Then came the needle. The pain is progressive. From an ant's bite from the initial penetration, then slowly to a WOW experience. It didnt feel so pain compared to the 20G. Then my partner poke into the vein, then blood started to back flow. Then to my horror/astonishment, my partner was scared of blood. He was perspiring and shaking when he saw the blood came out. I have to reassure him and tell him that i am not in pain. zzZZZzz.. Then the sergeant was guiding him.
"Okok. Hold on to the needle with your right hand, then hold the cannula with the left, then slowly dislodge." Then the next phrase shocked me like siao.
"Eh! Eh! Eh! Dont push the needle in. Hold on tightly then push the cathether in."
I think my bowel almost release itself when i heard this. Hahaha... The real pain came when the cannula starts to go in. The 20G cannula can just push in very smoothly into the vein. But the 16G cannula is so thick that it is rubbing against the skin. This dislodging part is the WOW x WOW experience.
Then the cannula gets sets in, the needle taken out. I think my partner didnt press tightly on my vein when taking the needle out. He was like very shaken when the needle came out. I think the blood also came flowing out. Then the sergeant quickly tell him put in the drip. Then in came the drip. Then my partner did all the taping.
Now, its time to take out the cannula.
